September 2021 School Reopening

Welcome

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We trust you and your family are well. It was a pleasure to see several of our remote and blended learning students and families who attended the open houses held in June 2021.

School is slated to re-open in September 2021 for children in Grades 3K-5, here at P.S. 53X. The first day of school for children will be September 13, 2021.

Currently, all students are expected to return to the physical building for school, Monday through Friday. There is no remote learning option.

We missed having all of our students and are certainly looking forward to seeing everyone in September. Continue to take safety measures and precautions, as we count the weeks and days remaining before we see each other as customary.

Technology

Technology has been integrated into our curricula to enhance students' experience, here at P.S. 53X. Our aim is to prepare our students to meet the demands of the 21st century. Each room is equipped with a smartboard. In tandem, there are several laptop carts made available on each floor for individual class usage. We also have a technology lab, where students are able to further explore, research and build their repertoire of technological skills.

Curricula

Our students receive standards-based instruction in the various content areas - English Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music, Technology and Physical Education. Our teachers work collaboratively to design rigorous units of studies in order to stimulate our students' interests and to develop their critical and analytical skills.

Partnerships

The following partnerships have been established to enhance the educational experiences of our students and develop well-rounded individuals: Boy Scouts of America, City Harvest, Music and the Brain, and Wellness in the Schools (WITS).

We offer various extracurricular and enrichment activities to our students through extended day programs such as:

Our students' academic experiences are further enhanced through fieldtrips to the theatre, museum, and other essential exposures, including:

Science Laboratory

We currently have a science laboratory located in our school, where classes get to conduct experiments. Likewise, through the partnerships with City Harvest and Wellness in the Schools, our students are able to participate in cooking classes. Through the cooking classes, students learn about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. There is a parent component as well, in which parents have an opportunity to participate in the cooking classes alongside their children.

We celebrated our centennial, here at P.S. 53X, in the academic year 2012-2013. Our school has been in existence for over 100 years and we are still growing strong!
