Proposed Merger here at P.S. 53X

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please take some time to read the letters, which have been attached, regarding the proposed merger which would lead to P.S. 88 merging with P.S. 53X for the upcoming school year.  Should the proposed merger occur, the school would retain its name as P.S. 53X.  Both schools currently share the same school zone and several students articulate to P.S. 53 after completing the Grade 3, which is the terminal grade at P.S. 88.

    Parent Learning Preference Survery

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

I trust you and your family are well.  School is slated to re-open in September 2020.  We would like to know your preference for how your children will receive instruction this school year.  There are two options: (1) fulltime remote learning every day and no appearance in the school building and (2) blended learning model in which students attend school in the physical ("brick and mortar") building for a few days and the other days at home with remote learning.  This information will provide insight as we plan for September.  If you have not already done so, please click on the following link and submit your response by August 7, 2020: https://www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference.

Technology has been integrated into our curricula to enhance students' experience, here at P.S. 53X.  Our aim is to prepare our students to meet the demands of the 21st century.  Each room is equipped with a smartboard. In tandem, there are several laptop carts made available on each floor for individual class usage.  We also have a technology lab, where students are able to further explore, research and build their repertoire of technological skills.

Our students receive standards-based instruction in the various content areas - English Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music, Technology and Physical Education.  Our teachers work collaboratively to design rigorous units of studies in order to stimulate our students' interests and to develop their critical and analytical skills.

The following partnerships have been established to enhance the educational experiences of our students and develop well-rounded individuals: Boy Scouts of America, City Harvest, Music and the Brain, and Wellness in the Schools (WITS).

Extracurricular Activities

We offer various extracurricular and enrichment activities to our students through extended day programs such as:

  • Basketball
  • Young Ladies' Foundation

Centennial Celebration

We celebrated our centennial, here at P.S. 53X,  in the academic year 2012-2013.  Our school has been in existence for over 100 years and we are still growing strong!
